History of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church

The Presbytery of Tampa Bay (our regional organization) has long recognized the need for a Presbyterian Church in the New Tampa/Wesley Chapel area. Beginning in November 2000, a small group of Presbyterians in the local area agreed to assist the presbytery in the preliminary work of a new church development: assessing interest, writing a grant application for funding, searching for a pastor, locating property to purchase and renting space for a temporary office and worship facility.

With the grant application approved, a minister, David Shelor, was called as a pastor for the new church in July 2002. From an informational meeting held in March 2000 and through a variety of other contacts, a large number of people had begun expressing interest. Preliminary worship services began on August 11, 2002 with an amazing response.

On October 1, 2006, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church was chartered as a new congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

In 2007, St. Andrew broke ground for a new church building and on March 23, 2008, Easter Day, we moved in to our new facility.

We continue to grow in people, fellowship, ministry and mission.

There's a lot more detail behind the simple history that you have captured, I am certain. To all who were involved, this is an important historical sketch and well worth saving here.
