I was born on March 28, 1950 at 9:30 A.M.. at the City Hospital in Manhattan, New York. Better known as "Welfare Island". My mother, Alta Virginia, aka Bunny, lived at 311 West 94th Street in New York City. Her maiden name was Beach. Mom was 24 years old at the time of my birth. My father's name was Alfred Maxwell, he was a short order cook and 29 years old. He never saw me. My parents separated before I was born. I found out much later that Maxwell wasn't my biological father. Naturally I don't remember much about my birth.
My Mom said she used to call me her "Little China Doll". My brother, Dennis Alan, was two years old when I was born. One day Mom was changing my diaper and Dennis asked her if Dee Dee's, (his nickname for me), wee wee was in her hiney? I didn't look like him and of course he wondered.
My mother said I didn't smile very much. I know I missed her alot. When Dennis and I were little we usually lived with baby sitters. Mom came to visit us when she could. At one of those homes Mom said she knew we were being beaten but she couldn't afford to take us to another sitter. I still have a hard time excepting that.
