My favorite black and white show was really a movie and it was only half in Black and White....The Wizard of Oz. It was a movie my mother enjoyed watching with me. Most of my growing up years, mom didn't have a lot of time for TV, keeping house for three kids, cooking every meal, cleaning every day but when the Wizard of Oz would appear, she would sit down with me and we would watch it together. I was terrified of the wicked witch of the west and would jump out of the chair and hide behind the large planters we had in the living room. My mother would always call me back and make me feel safe and cozy. I was always captivated by the color that would appear in OZ after the dreary black and white land of Kansas. I would swing in the backyard while singing all the tunes thinking that Louisiana was black and white like Kansas. I would long to go to a colorful place like OZ and have adventures like Dorothy. When my own daughter was young, we would gather together on the couch and watch the same movie as my mother and I had done. It was a tradition that still lingers. Over the Rainbow was the music I walked down the aisle to eleven years ago.
