EDNA STREETER (HER STORY)

Edna Streeter

Her Story

     Edna Streeter was born to parents Martin Josiah Streeter and Emma J. (Van Winkle) Streeter in 1878 in Ringgold Co., Iowa.   In 1880 census the family lived in Rice, Ringgold, Iowa. 

     In the census of 1900 the family, Martin J., Emma, Lucy C., Zaidee B., Edna I., Ben F., and Myrna A. Streeter all resided in Hamilton, Caldwell Co. Mo.

        She had joined in marriage with Charles Raymond Vance, on June 23, 1907. It appears the couple had a son named Leon (b.1911-d.1912) buried in Winterset City Cemetery, Winterset, Iowa.

       On September 12, 1918 Charles R. Vance registered for the WWI draft, did not find any information whether he served in the military at that time.  The family lived in Winterset, Madison Co., Iowa in the 1920 census.  At this time there were 5 children.  Helen 10, Donald and Doris 6, Hubert 4 and Walter 1.

      In the 1930 census family still at Winterset,

Iowa minus the older daughter Helen. 1940 census still has them living in Madison, Co. Iowa with the youngest son Walter.

      Her husband Charles was listed as a Postal Employee.  He died in 1950 and is buried in Winterset City Cemetery. In his obituary it was stated that he had been assistant Postmaster for 32 years.

       Edna J. (Streeter) Vance died in Los Angeles, California February 1971 and is also buried at Winterset City Cemetery  Winterset, Iowa.
