My Jewel Tea Truck

It always seems to me that 1956 is the year to remember. I know my Dad had a big piece of pipe fall on his leg and crush the bone in his lower leg. He was off of work for a long time. They had to put a silver plate in it and screw it back together is all I know. He always walked a limp after that. At first they thought they were going to have to amputate his leg but they were able to save it. I guess he must have gotten a pretty big settlement out of it. I know that is the year that they had the house remodeled and added on to. They also had a garage built. I think that is the year they bought their first deep freezer. I got a brand new bicycle with chrome fenders high goose neck and butterfly handlebars. I thought I was really something .But come Christmas I had my heart set on a big rig “Jewel Tea Truck” I think it made by Tonka but it was sold by the “Jewel Tea Company “. I had opened all of my present up Christmas morning and their wasn’t any truck . My heart was broken . Until my mother came driving it out of their bedroom all pretty and shiny . I still have it today in my living room. Even though it’s not as shiny as it was then . It has a few dings in it and front end is bashed in from years of having wrecks . But it has hauled a good many loads of canned corn and green beans over the years and it could still do it today .

Of course I don’t know if I could get down in the floor it drive it though.
