I lied I did not spend all eleven months of my tour in Viet Nam in Qui Nhon . I was sent TDY (Temporary Duty Something) for three months to Plieu Ku . It was about 50 miles inland. They needed some one to install a new 4 inch galvanized steel water line for a new compound that another Engineer Unit was building and we was the only Engineer outfit around that had extra men to do the work . So they sent about twenty of us to Plieu Ku to do it. We loaded up in the back of five 5 ton dump trucks and headed the road that took us to Plieu Ku . This took us through the notaries Anh Ke Pass that noted for ambushes
When we arrived in Plieu Ku they told us that about one mile behind us there had been a convoy with ammo and food on it got attacked. I thought to myself. The enemy was there hiding when we came through they just didn’t want us they wanted the BIG convoy. Am I lucky? We stayed in Plieu Ku and did our work in the mornings while it was cool and in the afternoons when it started to get hot (where there is a water line there is water) the water line ran from a lake to the water purification plant. We would go back to the beginning of the water line and take a nice cool swim every afternoon. We finally got the water line built and returned to Qui Nhon
