When we were sitting at the edge of the Provo Temple fountain, I told Diane that I was not marrying her for who she was, but who she would become! You see, the blessing is not in the being, but in the becoming.
In a few days, we will have been married 40 years. I have to really hand it to her--putting up with me for that long. No one else has every done that! Even my mother, who now lives with us, only had to put up with me for 18 years before I moved out of the house to go to college.
She has become much more than I could have hoped for. Through our trials and triumphs together, raising five wonderful and supportive children, and seeing their examples of raising our now 14 grandchildren, I have been so blessed to have made such a wise decision.
Actually, both of us realized at the time we became engaged that we had been brought together through a loving Heavenly Father who loves all his cihldren and wants for them much more than we can consciously desire for ourselves. We are very appreciative of His tender mercies. Part 3 of the video "Johnny Lingo" will help explain what I mean. People excell to the level of expectation of their leaders and associates.
