Apple Fritters

1 c. sifted flour
2 T. sugar
1 t. baking powder
1 c. pared apples, diced
1 c. milk
1 t. corn oil
1/2 t. salt
1 egg

Sift flour, salt, baking powder and sugar together.  Beat egg well, add milk and corn oil.  Add to dry ingredients.  Beat until smooth.  Mix in apples. 

Heat corn oil (at least 1 inch of oil) in deep skillet or heavy sauce pan to 375°.  Drop batter by tablespoonfuls in hot oil, turn as needed.  When done, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
