Joe Land - Picture during the time he was sheriff

Postcard dated November 24, 1911, during time Joe Land was Sheriff of Smith County, Texas. The top back of the postcard is incorrectly labeled Gaston & Joe Land.  I believe the second person is "Wig" Smith, his deputy. Were they at the Sheriff's Association meeting in Houston? Still trying to locate a paper from that time to find out what they were doing in Houston. Postcard note was addressed to Mrs. Katie Land (His wife) in Tyler, Texas and at the bottom is written West Bow 201. It says (with annonations by Jeri Steele, "Hello sweethart how are you [?] By this time I am all ok  [.] Well I guess I will come home Sunday [.] Hear [sic] is some picture I found hear [sic. They needed smiley faces!] Well I am having a nice time now while in Huston [sic.] Well I don't now [sic] nothing to write so I will close [.]  By By".

What a great little piece of personal correspondence Jeri. By posting it here you never know who else may be searching the internet for related information. You may just get your answer.

Check out this website. They have a " Historical Newspaper " section . You can do a search for Texas newspapers only and narrow the search down to only certain years. You have a lot of common names to search for so maybe if you searched for " Wig"or maybe " Tyler" you might come up with better results. Limit it to 1911 and look for a Houston Newspaper from around November 24 or 25 . I hope this helps.
