My Great-Grandpa Jensen

Our family visited my great-grandma and great-grandpa Jensen (my dad’s grandparents on his mother’s side of the family) this past summer, which was really a great experience.  They live in Southern Alberta, Canada and we rarely get to visit with them.  They are both getting quite old and have moved out of their home to a senior living center.  My great-grandpa just turned 91 this year on Saturday, September 14th, 2013.  He told us a story when we visited him that my dad says he didn’t even know about.

Great-grandpa Jensen has always had a difficult time smelling, which I’m not sure I knew until he mentioned it to us.  But anyhow, when he was a teenager, his friend got a new motorcycle and stopped by to show my great-grandpa.  They went for a ride through downtown Raymond and while they were crossing through an intersection they were hit by a car and my grandpa was hurt pretty badly.  He recovered, but ever since that accident it had damaged something in his sensory of smell that has damaged it permanently and he hasn’t been able to smell anything from that time until now.

Isn't it interesting the things we can learn about our relatives when we sit down with them to hear what they have to say? Thanks for sharing this!
