My Keepsakes and Heirlooms Have Been Found on Ebay
My Burland Ancestors have had many things written about them. I have found many of my heirlooms online at Ebay. I had never thought that I would ever find anything about my ancestors online. But, when I was online a couple of years ago, I googled Burland. Imagine my surprise when I found a book that was a who's who of Canada. I bought the book and read about my Great Grand Uncle George Bull Burland who owned the Burland Lithographic Company. I started researching and found that the company had done the lithography in a lot of Canadian books and maps for the government. Most of which are in museums now. Or too expensive to purchase. I found a map online at Christmas this year, it was a railroad map of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the connections from the states. It was $12.00 and as the lady in the frame shop said, 'it is kind of ratty." I could care less. It would be the only time to buy a map from the Burland Litho Co. from about 1879-1882. I had it framed and it is beautiful. 
From this to an archival repair and frame...............
I love to see things that my Ancestors have made or written. I like to show them to my Grandchildren. But someday, I will donate the things that I have collected to various museums that are interested. I feel it is my way of teaching my Grandchildren about their family and being able to give something back to the genealogy community, so others will be able to see the rich history of their world.
I have collected a lot of beautiful things. Mostly books, which I absolutely cannot live without. I would like to share these things a little at a time. As it is not as much fun to possess things as it is to share them.

Seek and ye shall find....so seek did thou....and find did thee. Delightful tale of a burning quest.
It is a burning quest!! A woman found me online. Her Grandpa in the Czech Republic had found an old bottle with the name Schmeiser and Landskroun on it. The Schmeisers in my line came from Landskroun, Chrudim, Bohemia. The bottle had been found in a barn. The Grandfather had sent his bottle collection to his Granddaughter in Canada. His Granddaughter found me online and I bought the bottle. It is so much fun to find things like this all over the world. Every day is a new discovery.
I've discovered family treasures on Ebay too. Fortunately, I've won them all. I scan them and then create a story document to accompany the scan and send a copy to everyone in the family.
Isn't it fun! I made a book with some of the photos of the ancestors that were related to my ebay find and a photo of the object I found. Then I put it all on a dvd with a music track and captions. I gave it to my entire family for a Christmas gift. I don't know what country your ancestors are from, but I have won auctions on the Czech auction website too.
Every day sure is a new fun discovery! I recently found a copy of a gorgeous Hagermeister postcard from around 1910. Identifying marks were "328" and "Szendy Merchant & Tailor." I did some googling of the name and found the g/grandson of the merchant. The family has spent countless hours researching their history, and they're adding the postcard to their collection. How cool is that?! Yay! I actually put up a FB page "Vintapix" in case anyone is looking for pics or has found some interesting pics they think people may be looking for. (I've kind of neglected it this past month, but this conversation is inspiring me to get back to it!) )))))
It is really cool. The postcards are usually neglected as a great place to find family collectibles. No matter where your ancestors came from there is probably a postcard for sale on ebay for the place.
