The Recording Process

REVIEW POINTS

  • Be prepared and properly set up
  • Fresh batteries for recorder and scanner
  • Get comfortable in the quietest spot
  • Select "Legacy Photos" from a series
  • Use the Story Log- coordinate track and photo by number
  • Explain the process- no tapping, state name and date, prompt when needed, keep less than 3-5 minutes
  • One voice at a time
  • Have fun
  • Put recorder on a padded surface
  • Check for background noise-fans, TV, cell phones, etc
  • Test recording first
  • Press red button to record, again to pause, again to resume. Press stop to create an audio track
  • Hands away from recorder
  • 2-3 feet away from teller
  • Check recorder between tracks to confirm you are recording and not stopping

Working with Digital Files and Backing Up

REVIEW POINTS

  • Scan vintage photos on location when possible
  • Work with digital files at home or office
  • Rename the audio and photo files (Use number assigned on Story Log at beginning of name)
  • Drag to desktop
  • Create client master folder on desktop
  • Create audio and photo subfolders then drag the audio to the audio and the photo to the photo folders- then place both sub-folders into the master folder.
  • Back up your computer regularly
  • Back up entire body of work onto archival DVDs.
