Remember the Families on Memorial Day

On Memorial Day we'll show our respect and appreciation to military heroes who gave life and limb for our freedom. While we remember these incredible men and women, their families are often forgotten.

It is impossible to measure the degree of sacrifice and pain these families have suffered. Many provide constant care for their disabled loved ones, and postpone their own dreams and aspirations.

This weekend, if you know a family (and most of us do) who is in this situation, drop in for a friendly visit.

Start a conversation and then genuinely listen. You may be one of the few people to hear amazing stories from the caregiver's perspective, since most people usually ask the caregiver about the veteran's health.

This generous act of kindness will be greatly appreciated, and the experience could change your life in a profound way.

Of course, veterans also have stories to tell. All they need is someone willing to ask.
