Saved by ........The Fog?

Last Sunday the Sr. Pastor at my church taught on the Sovreignty and Providence of God!  One of my favorite topics, and also a lesson I need often, as I tend to query Why way more often than the average bear.  You would think that my family history would have innoculated me against doubt and despair about God's care for me and His unswerving, watchful eye.  Let me give you an example from the Glenn family.  This story is courtesy of Judy Glenn of Corinth, Mississippi.  She is married to my cousin Bill, but she has been as tenacious with our family history as her own!  And Bill's sister, GG ( Gloria Glenn Holloway) is an equally ardent researcher into Glenn family history.  I will ask them both to edit this story for accuracy to the tale they learned.

Ok, Glenn Family, here goes!  Our Pruitt and Hubbard ancestors were from Iuka, Mississippi in Tishomingo County.  In fact, one of our great, great grandfathers was a founder of Tishomingo County.  Our great grandfather, Lemuel Hubbard, founded the church where we all went to worship on the Sunday of our family reunion in 2010.  But since the founding of the county many events occurred which protected the land and people and allowed our family to grow and flourish.  I compare it to how God always protected a remnant of people who would eventually become the forefathers of Mary and Joseph, then Jesus.  Like how he used Rahab to protect the Jewish spies from being killed;  or how he used Ruth, a Moabitess, to marry Boaz and become great-grandparents of David.  Well, we have an incident which saved the town of Iuka during the Civil War.  At that time, Iuka was actually a more prosperous town and was the target for the Union Army to capture.  But on the day when the Yankees had determined to advance on Iuka, and our family, there was a supernatural event!  Have you ever heard of an "acoustic shadow"?  As Judy and GG read in the information they found, it is like a weather aberration which causes sound to be distorted in volume and in direction.  The Union Army thought they heard a large, dominating army approaching from the direction of Iuka (they were in Corinth at the time).  They decided to stay and fight in Corinth and not attempt a battle in Iuka.  Who knows if our great grandfather was saved that day?  Where would we be otherwise?  Flora Leigh Pruitt Glenn might have been born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania instead of Mississippi!  And she would never have met Joseph Edgar Glenn!  And I wouldn't know my precious cousins!

I invite all Glenn cousins to add their stories of God's faithfulness to us all!  In these times we need encouragement and to rely on Him alone!  Let's also work on the other stories of Iuka, and the story of our lives.

Great start Amy and now lets see if the family will change any of the facts or if they will remain the same and love all that you have done to keep the legacy story alive for all time.
Love, Christine
