Senior Prom

In December of my senior year at Bristol High a group of my girl friends all got together, secured dates and began preparation of what to wear!  I made my evening gown of red taffeta covered with two layers of white net.  It was strapless. I was so proud of tis accomplishment. My date was Odie, big man on campus a senior at UCONN.  One week  befor the event he called, his ROTC check had not come, therefore he could not take me to the prom. Needless to say I was devastated.  I raged, cried and yelled.

My mother in her infinate wisdom came to the rescue.  My sister had dated a guy, Paul ,and he was home from college. Mom suggested I call him , explain the situation and see if he could take me.  I told him I would pay for my flowers as well as my meal after the prom if he would just TAKE me! He did and  I had the most wonderful time of my life!  We really danced all around the others who were barely moving! He bought the flowers and paid for our meals.  What a sweetheart.

I remember the taffeta and net evening dresses! I know you looked lovely, and to realize you were talented at dress making as a teenager! Your mom surely was perceptive. Pat

I love it Janie, especially that you and your friends "secured dates". Not very secure but it's funny to hear the female version of dating back then. Cute!!

And how those strapless gowns enticed the boys. I know how it felt from the boy's side to be "stood up." Now I have an idea of what it feels like to a girl. Thanks
