The life of a young women during the war
During the war Mother knit socks, mittens, and scarves for the sailors overseas. She sewed stuffed animals for the Red Cross and many of her gifts are still treasured by family and friends.
She was also talented in quilting, crocheting, and making rugs. She crocheted my favorite granny square afghan. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing the organ.
In the summer she grew a market that we helped with and every weekend she travelled to Sherbrooke to sell flowers and vegetables.
She was well known for her craft making and could turn a liquid bleach bottle into a work of art. I still have a wooden plaque with a flower design made from seeds, acorns, pinecones, and kernels of corn that she made for me as well as a wooden tray with wicker around it.
