Tithing

This is a story my dad particularly requested several months ago.

My 5-year-old son came home after church one Sunday with a picture he had drawn in Sunday School. It showed a large circle divided in two sections. On the left, Ryan explained, he had drawn stick figures representing Grandma (Diane J. Adams), each of his three sisters, Cricket (my mom's dog), his parents, the family cat we no longer had, and a couple of favorite cousins. In all we counted nine figures. In the section on the right he had drawn a stick figure of Grandpa (Golden V. Adams, Jr.).

"Ryan," I asked. "Why is Grandpa all alone on that side?"

"Because we learned about tithing today. I'm giving Grandpa to the bishop for my tithing," he said.

Laughing at how little ones' minds work! I still wonder at my son's thinking, and he's 20!

Thanks Chantel, I really appreciate that you honored my request in preserving Ryan's tithing story. Beautifully told. It reminds me of when he told me what he had drawn a day or two after. He certainly learned the concept--one "sharp" lad.

Kids are so much fun and so unpredictable at times as to what is going on in that little head of theirs. Great memory and story to have later on!
