VISITING ANGELS LAUNCHES LEGACY TALKS
VISITNG ANGELS HOME CARE PARTNERS WITH LEGACY STORIES TO LAUNCH LEGACY TALKS, REMINISCING WITH PURPOSE
Visiting Angels, one of the largest home care franchisers in the United States, has launched a new photo reminiscing service called, “Legacy Talks.”
Developed by the team at Legacy Stories, Legacy Talks helps seniors take a critical first step toward passing down a meaningful legacy. Easily integrated into home care ADLs, caregivers are trained to use a smart phone or tablet to scan vintage family photos and record the senior’s voice while reminiscing, only this time reminiscing with purpose.
They provide valuable personal and family history while reminiscing with photos. This welcomed activity restores a sense of purpose and is believed to show benefits for cognitive functionality in seniors with early stage dementia.
With 78 million baby boomers entering the elder care continuum, leaving a legacy will become more of a priority with each wave. A survey of Baby Boomers and their parents, conducted by the Allianz American Legacy Study, were asked to rank their priorities when it comes to passing down an inheritance. Despite the perceived importance these generations place on leaving a legacy, only a small fraction has made provisions to do it.
Home care providers are ideally positioned to fill this vacuum by recording meaningful life stories in the course of basic companionship services.
Visiting Angels strives to enrich the lives of their clients and families they serve. Providing a high perceived, value-add service at no cost to clients is one important way to achieve that goal.
Ultimately, as families become engaged in the process of building a legacy for their loved ones, they become incented to spend more time with their loved ones, capturing and preserving the true wealth of the family, the life lessons and values of their elders.
