Chapter 1 - The Miracle at Birth

“And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them.” Moroni 10:8

I guess the first turning point of my life took place before I was born. I am the fourth daughter of our family. My father was Leland Dwight Jolley and my mother was Rhea Huntington. My mother had a very difficult time getting pregnant and then had hard pregnancies. My father could not stand watching anyone suffer so he told my mother that this would be her last pregnancy.

A few months into the pregnancy my mother knew that she was going to have twins but the doctor (Dr. Wells Brockbank of Spanish Fork) did not feel that was the case. My mother kept insisting until the doctor finally consented to do some testing. He told her that if she was carrying twins he would deliver the second one for free. Well, there were twins and I was the second one. We were born 45 minutes apart and there were complications during the delivery of my sister Deanne that put my life in jeopardy. Had my mother not alerted the doctor to the possibility of twins, I probably would have lost my life. The consequence of my mother’s choice to follow her promptings and alert the doctor ensured me life.

I am so grateful for the gift of life and many times have wondered why my life was spared and what my purpose is here in mortality. For the most part I have had an easy life and have been given much.
