If I Could go Back and Talk to Ancestor Who Would it Be and What Would I Ask...

Really - only ONE ancestor?? Come on - you have to know me better than THAT!!  Me who is working on a book about time travel and going back to watch my ancestors and maybe interact with them.... (still working on plot and story line).  So I cannot limit it to just one ancestor.  I have a list.  And I really wish I could talk to some one about building a time machine.... SERIOUSLY.

King Henry II - Ok - I am so grateful he wasn't faithful to Eleanor.  Don't know what he saw in Ida de Toney but that is fine by me, because their son is the reason I am alive today.  So i would want to know what life was like back in the 12th century.  He didn't seem to get much rest with all the plotting and infighting with his legitimate sons... Especially Richard the Lionhearted and John of Magna Carta fame (and yes I also have an ancestor who was one of the Barons who made John sign that document).  What was it like to constantly have to watch your back and be in war... What were the Crusades like?

I would also like to talk to Major John Mason - Founder of Norwich Connecticut.  I would like to know who his parents were for sure but also what it was like to live in Connecticut in teh 1600s.  What was it like fighting the Indians and serving in the govenrment.  The "Major" was well respected and there are many books written about him... he did write a first hand account of dealing with the Indians.  He even had a best bud who was an Indian. But I would love to chat with him about what it was like being in the military and having to defend the colony constantly.  He was also not the most religious man during a time when that was soooo critical.  So how did he get away with it?  :-)

I would also love to talk to all of my ancestors who fought in the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War. I think it would be fascinating to hear their perspective on what it was like and why they enlisted... I would also like to talk with my female ancestors during that time to... to get a woman's perspective since behind every good man is an even better woman!!

Then I would like to talk to my Confederate Ancestors and ask them what it was like during that time too?  I am reading more and more books that are based on original documents that are showing me that what we are "taught in textbooks to be the truth" really isn't.

Then I would want to talk to John Wesley Martin - who left everyting behind in Texas to marry Mary Elizabeth Lang in Georgia. That is some kind of love ( and it would not hurt if he could tell me who his folks are being the beig bad brick wall that he is).

I have some newly discovered ancestors that were in King Henry VIII's court.  Wouldn't it be the BOMB to talk to them and see what it was like when the Fat One was king.

Anyway - now this prompt has me thinking... More on this later...

On either or both sides, what kind of work did you...
