If I could visit any relative of my past who would it be?

One - only one?  You would try to impose limits on me?  I have many I want to visit.

FIRST and foremost is my great great grandfather John Wesley Martin.  Right now he is my genealogy brick wall.  I have visited his grave in Lincolnton, Georgia and asked him to manifest and tell me who his parents were, with a solemn promise that if he did appear I would not scream, run away, or wet myself.  He DID NOT take me up on my offer, much to my dismay.  All I know about him is that he was born in Helena Arkansas in 1840.  He had one sister, Henrietta Josephine Martin.  IN 1850 they were living with Frances Wilson in Bowie Texas.  By 1860 they were living with the Cowley family (Mrs. Cowley was the sister of Frances Wilson).  by 1870 he was in Lincolnton, GA married to Mary Elizabeth Lang, having given into his FIL request that he forsake his property in Texas (he gave it all to his sister) and not take his new bride back in echange for a nice house and property in GA.  He died in 1890.  Oh how I would love to know about his life, what happened to his parents and what it was like to serve in the Confederacy.

Then I would want to talk to my great great uncle - John Luther Branch.  He ordered the first shots fired upon the Star of the West in the Charleston Harbour. THE first shots of the war, thank you very much.  Very proud of him.  I would love to know what it was like to be in South Carolina when the Succession occurred.

Then I would want to talk to my founding Branch ancestor, John Branch, who came over to America with his father on the ship The Castle in 1638.  His dad died during the trip - leaving 11 year old John to face the new world on his own.  What a story that would be!  If it weren't for him I wouldn't be here.

I have numerous ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary war so it would be cool to talk to them about their experiences.  One who fought in the War of 1812 and tons who served teh Confederacy.

Given that one of my mother's lines traces back to King Hery II who married Eleanor of Aquitaine - what I wouldn't give to talk to him and, well, her as well.  Though I am not sure if she would like me since I am a descendant of his child with mistress Ida d'Toney. :-)

And finally - I would love to chat with Major John Mason - my great grandfather to the I don't know what degree - one of the Founders of Norwich Connecticut and know as the Periquois Indian fighter.  What stories he could tell.

I am sorry - can't be limited to just one - there are too many I want to talk to!!!!

And they would all be amazing talks to be sure. You have an incredibly rich heritage. We should all be so lucky. Maybe we do. We just haven't dug deep enough.
