My Countryman, Tadeusz Kosciuszko
Who was the first person to be nominated to be president of the United States? George Washington didn't really want it.
This person spent quite a bit of time at Thomas Jefferson's house before that, when they were setting up the Government.
(From an observer: "Was this person Polish?")
He saved George Washington's life six or seven times from being captured by the British. He was Tadeusz Kosciuszko. He built West Point. To this day West Point cadets honor him.
What they did was, our government apologized, saying, "We can't spell your name. And we have to think of future people. They can't pronounce or spell your name."
So the American Government gave Kosciuszko a whole bunch of land on the north end of Columbus here. They gave him like $20,000 to get the land started. They gave him a land grant.
What happened, he wanted the land to go to the slaves. Thomas Jefferson didn't do it. So the Supreme Court ruled that the family couldn't get that land back.
The Budweiser Brewery is built on part of that land that Kosciuszko got. I think it's right that they should bring me a case of beer once a week delivered to my house.
