Charlie's First Car A 1972 Ford Maverick

Since Tom Cormier’s son Tyler wrote a story about his experience with his dirt bike and his cars I will write one about my deceased son’s car. Since he is not around to do it for himself. It’s just too good of a story not to pass along.

Charlie as we always called him ( since he was a junior) was seventeen months younger than his brother . His brother had worked and bought a 1972 Ford Maverick . Stock engine was a six cylinder . Cute little car . Key word little . One of my wife’s round about relatives had a 1979 Ford LTD 2 door ( TANK) that they were going to give Charlie . Since Charlie’s older brother was more than well I guess NOT a “ Little Feller” so to speak . They talked things over and big brother decided he would rather have the big car instead of the small Maverick .So they traded . No problem . Charlie was in LOVE . He worked and saved enough money to buy him a Mustang steering wheel . one with hole’s in it like a rally race car has . He installed it . He would start it up drive it up and down the drive way . Put a little bleach on the tire’s ( while we gone of course) so when he gave it lot’s gas the tire’s would smoke . My wife always wondered where all of the bleach was going . One Saturday afternoon were busy working in the house , Charlie was out front playing with his car as usual when all of a sudden we heard a lot racket out front . I ran out front to see what was wrong .  Charlie was sitting in his car crying . I said “ what’s wrong ?” He told me that he had been playing around sticking his fingers in the holes in the steering wheel and his fingers gut stuck in the holes . I had to get some dish soap to squirt on his fingers to slide them out and free them . He never put his fingers in the holes again.
