HENRY TOSPEN

By Judy Housh

Henry Tospon was born in 1838 in Brunswick, Germany. His wife, Elizabeth Whelaman, was born in 1843 in Hanover, Germany.

The family left Germany and moved to England and then onto Scotland before coming to the United States to locate in Somerset, Pennsylvania.  Dates of the move, and whether or not Henry and Eliza were married are unknown at this time.

The Civil War Discharge states that he enlisted in the 54th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Sept. 4th, 1861 (age 23) and discharged Feb 22, 1864.  He re-enlisted Feb 23, 1864 and discharged May 31, 1865.

Henry and Eliza left Pennsylvania for Caldwell County, Missouri with a 1 year old and baby Florinda (Flora) was 2 weeks old, traveling by covered wagon to Caldwell County.  7 children were born to this union.

They bought land and built a house near Kingston. Near neighbors were Thomas and Nancy Parker and their children.

Flora married Frank L. Parker (one of the above Parker children) who became Sheriff in Kingston. They had 5 children including Thomas Monroe Parker (my grandfather). T.M. Parker (Roe) had 2 children, one is my father, named Frank L. Parker.

FRANK L. PARKER, I.
