Johnnie Catron His Story
Johnnie Catron
His Story
John Catron was born on Nov. 22,1819 in Virginia to parents Christopher Kettering/Katrine/Catron (1787-1854 and Mary (O’Neill) Kettering/Katrine/Catron (1798-?).
In November or 1844 he joined in marriage with Elizabeth Ann Dula(1828-1900) daughter of Thomas Beasley Dula Sr(1782-1829) and Elizabeth (Hulme) Dula (1887-1865).
In the census of 1850 we find the couple living in Caldwell County North Carolina with three children. Occupation listed as farmer of 1000acres.
In the census of 1860 the family living on the same 1000 acres in Patterson, Caldwell Co. North Carolina with 8 children, one white farm hand and 1 female (mullato) slave living on farm. The hired farm hand name of Conrod Row is listed in 1861 as serving in the North Carolina infantry (Conf).
John Catron is listed as a 1st Lieutenant in the 26th North Carolina Infantry (Conf) and served throughout the Civil War.
Unable to determine exactly when the family migrated to Caldwell Co. Missouri, but they are listed in the 1870 census. Two more children born to couple during the Civil War, one in 1862 (Laura) and one in 1864 (Robt. Mathias) all born in Caldwell County, North Carolina, so must surmise that the family stayed in the South until the Civil War had ended. In the census of 1870 the family are living in Grant Township, Caldwell Co. Missouri. Seven of the children still remain living with the parents.
Johnnie Catron died on June 8, 1873 and is buried in Kingston Cemetery.
