Strawberry Peak
Marv and I bagged another amazing peak in the San Gabrial Mountains. This hike was relatively easy until the last mile, then the scrambling began. But it was worth the effort to bag this peak.
The most challenging peak in the front range of the San Gabriels. This trail loops through a shaded canyon, brush, and exposed rock-face Class Three bouldering before descending to idyllic meadows in the shadow of Strawberry Peak’s dramatic north face. Hands down, one of the best hikes in Los Angeles.
Just 11 miles and 2731 feet to go!
We started up from the Mt Wilson parking lot.
Looking back at Angeles Crest Highway from the trail.
Up we go!
These are huge yuccas, they would make hiking sticks for a giant!
Marv leading the way!!
This is looking back at the assent, and where the trail fades away in the picture is pretty much a straight face down scrambling on loose rocks all the way!
Looking back across the trail you can see the group of young people that we shared the peak with. They were kind enough to take our picture with the signs that are at the top. Here they are enthusiastically waving farewell!
There is still so much snow looking back at Mount Baldy.
After our whiskey toast to celebrate bagging another peak, we took pictures with the signs that some kind hiker made and placed at the peak.
