George Doddridge

His Story 

     George Doddridge was the second child born to Blackstone P. and Sarah (Winder) Doddridge, on October 26,1874, in Hamilton, Caldwell County, Missouri.

     He remained living with his parents, listed in 1900 and 1910 Census.  In the 1910 census, he had married Myrtle(Hill) born in 1881.  They have a son Joseph W. born on August 12,1902, and a second son G. Russell born in 1909.  It was stated in the obituary of George that three sons were born to he and Myrtle, but didn’t find any name mentioned ,or dates.

    On September 12, 1918 George registered for the draft at Kingston.

     His first wife Myrtle died in 1924 and is buried in Highland, Hamilton Cemetery. In 1931 he again married.  His second wife was Olive Florence (McClelland) Tospon.  No children were born of this Union.  Mrs. Tospon/Doddridge had one son by a previous marriage.  Dr. H. N. Tospon.

     On August 12,1938 Joseph W. Doddridge died as a result of a gunshot wound, he was taken to St. Joseph Hospital but didn’t survive the wound.  It was self inflicted.

     The second son of George and Myrtle Doddgidge was named  Russell George, or George Russell.  He was born in 1909 in Caldwell Co. Missouri.  In 1941 he was living in Reno ,Nevada, and signed up for the WWII on December 16,1941.  He joined the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Eagle until April of 1942, then was transferred to the U.S.S. Morrison, until May 1945, then was transferred to the U.S.S. Blue Ridge. He passed away on April 30,1981 and is buried in the Roseburg National Cemetery , in Roseburg V.A. Medical Center in Oregon.

     On December 26,1946 George Doddridge died as a result of a suicide. The details are in the accompanying obituary.

     In August of 1953, Florence Doddridge died at the home of her son Dr. H.N. Tospon, as a result of multiple heart attacks.
